In-Patient, long-term "Treatment" is live-in, full-time, rehabilitation Therapy.  Leaving the program facility for any reason is regulated and conditional.  Participants attend a daily schedule of Educational classes, Inter-active groups, and Individual sessions with Counselors and/or Therapists.  These clients always have assigned responsibilities often including meal preparation, building maintenance and sometimes even Orientation of those new to the program.  Trust is commonly earned, not given and is rewarded by privileges commonly taken for granted in most people's daily lives (e.g. going to the corner store unescorted).  Sometimes those who stay long enough and evolve in their rehabilitation successfully, assume positions such as "House Manager"  or they become assistants to Program Staff helping with office duties and various time consuming tasks.  These participants are seldom allowed to hold down jobs while in this "Treatment" phase, and are drug tested often!
     The "Sober Living Environment" is sort of a "graduation" for those completing a "Treatment" program, and is often a choice of those who have obtained a significant amount of time abstinent, but feel insecure and wish to take advantage of a "controlled environment", as a preventive measure against "Relapse" into Drug Use!
     Most Residents of a SLE, work or are on "fixed" incomes.  Regular "drug testing" is a program pillar and curfews and permissions create structure in the daily lives of the residents.  Actual "Counseling" or "Therapy" cannot be conducted at the facility.  Often though, these programs or "homes", host Narcotics and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.  Many times residents are participating in "Out-Patient" "Treatment" programs concurrently.  Each resident commonly has assigned duties at the facility determined by their "working" status.  In contrast to "Treatment", those in the SLE programs are free to come and go for most of the day and on weekends take "overnights" staying away for 24 to 72 hours at a time!
